Govt Clears Purchase of 200 Police Pickups, Fuel Imports for Second Half of 2025
The government has given the green light for the procurement of 200 double-cabin pickup trucks for the police and approved the import of 1.3 million tonnes of refined petroleum products to meet the country's fuel requirements for the latter half of the year.
The decisions were finalized on Wednesday during a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
As per the committee’s decision, the pickups will be acquired directly from local automaker Pragati Industries at a total cost of Tk 172 crore. These vehicles will support operational activities within the police force.
In addition, the committee endorsed the purchase of approximately 1.275 million tonnes of refined fuel for the July–December period of 2025. The estimated cost for this import stands at Tk 9,139 crore (around $749 million).
The selected suppliers for the fuel imports include PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Vitol Asia Pte Ltd (Singapore), and Sinochem International Oil (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
Following the meeting, the finance adviser informed reporters that public consultations on the upcoming national budget would be held after the Eid holidays, with feedback collection continuing through June 19. Final approval of the budget is scheduled for June 22.
